Vegan Mofo: October Fest Maple BBQ Sauce & Marinade Recipe

Part of one of three of a really lip smacking recipe.
This is delicioso recipe on it's own, but is actually a component of another recipe I will be posting in a day or two. It uses beer as the base, hence it's title "Octoberfest!" If you've got the edge, then a non-alcoholic brew is perfectly acceptable to use. Sweet, tangy and easy! What could be better?

October Fest Maple BBQ Sauce and Marinade Recipe (vegan)
Prep time: 5 minutes; Cooking time: 20-30 minutes
Yields approximately 1 cup

  • 2 cups beer (If you don't like the tang of beer, use veggie broth.)
  • 1-2 cloves pureed garlic or 1 tsp hing
  • 2 TB maple syrup
  • 1 TB blackstrap molasses
  • 2 TB prepared brown mustard
  • 3 TB tomato paste
  • 2 TB soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • optional: 1 TB olive oil. (If you prefer a fat free sauce, then leave this out.)

Erdinger N/A = Vegan!

  1. Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and whisk.
  2. Bring to a roiling boil. (Watch it because it may boil out of your pan--keep stirring!)
  3. Turn down heat to lowest setting. Let simmer until the sauce reduces. About 20-15 minutes.
  4. Store any unused sauce in your fridge.

  1. Oooh I LOVE Erdinger - this sauce sounds GOOOOOD!

  2. This sounds amazing! I will definitely stay tuned for the next part of this dish! But the bbq sauce is definitely amazing on its own

  3. This sounds great. I've never made my own BBQ sauce going to give this a try.

  4. Wow, I saw this picture on the official MoFo roundup & had to head straight over to get the recipe!

  5. *sniffling* I wish I could consume beer! No longer with my gluten intolerance. Saddest day ever. But I am sure this sauce is worthy of eating all on its sounds so good!

  6. Always looking for cool bbq sauce recipes and I love cooking with beer! Thanks!
