Crafty Kids: Paper Lanterns

My 5-year-old daughter spent the better half of this morning working on making paper lanterns. She reached her goal of making one with every piece of colored paper she had in her paper box. She's not only crafty, she's very determined and industrious!

To make, take a rectangular piece of paper. Cut one 3/4" strip from the width of the paper, set aside. Fold the rest of the paper in half length wise. From the folded edge cut evenly spaced parallel lines to about 1" or so from the opposite edge. Open up the paper and shape into a tube. Secure with a staple or two at the top and bottom. Take the strip of paper you set aside and staple that on the top. There's you paper lantern! Perfect for decorating an outdoor setting or a kid's birthday party.
