Scissors Craft: Make Your Own Screen Door Curtain!

Make Your Own Screen Door Curtain Tutorial
Time: 5 minutes

My kids love playing together in our backyard while I cook dinner, and I like keeping an eye on them through the backdoor. The problem is our door is off a very small landing that serves as an entrance to four different places. No room for a screen door and this means every fly and other winged insect find their way into the house. Not anymore! I made a screen curtain to keep the critters out. It's great because I can watch the kids and the bugs stay outside! Cheap and brilliant (if I do say so myself).

Supplies:

Step One

Instructions:

Step One:
Unroll your screen and fold the top over about 2 inches. Sew a pocket for the tension rod to slip through. I recommend sewing two parallel seams to reinforce the pocket (specially if you have little ones who will probably be tugging on it). You can also sew another pocket on the bottom for another tension rod to weight the screen down.

Step Two

Step Two:
Set your tension rod to the desired width, insert it through the screen curtain pocket and hang. It's that easy! Kids can come and go and buggies stay out.

Love the idea! Being that I live in an apartment that doesn't allow permanent changes, I needed something like this to help with almost the same issues as you. Thank you so much!

  2. And this could def be done for a window--just do pockets at either end (to the exact length of the window) and set tension rods at both ends! easy!

  3. This is so great, just what I was looking for. I wanted to make a screen for my apartment patio so my dog could walk around without all the bugs. Thanks for posting this tutorial!

  5. I just made one for my back door where my dogs are going in and out. The flies were driving me CRAZY!!! I put a rod at the top and also at the bottom to weight it. It looks great. Let's hope it does the trick.

  7. Sounds great. I need something like this but I don't sew at all. Think this will work with stapling instead of sewing?

    1. Using a needle and thread by hand would be so easy! I don't know if staples would work, but a glue gun would. Worse comes to worse you could just cut the mesh to the right side and use push pins to adhere it to the wooden door frame.

Sounds great-- would this work just stapling (instead of sewing)?
